Home Repair – Sales and Service

The home repair – sales and service market has boomed within the last 15 years, with a significant amount of small business owners, with employees numbering in the single digits, filling the local want ads and Craigs List – no to mention the larger companies vying for the same customer.  Thus, there are two categories, each divided into two sub classifications one can approach:
  • Home repair businesses that rely primarily on the sale of products to the owner, with service as an afterthought.  Some examples are hot tub sales, plant nurseries, swimming pools and even carpet installation is fair game.  The ancillary consideration is the size of the merchant:
    1. Large Business – larger companies that have a significant presence      and may even be found in a multi-state area
    2. Small Business – small one person businesses that may employ a small crew to perform the jobs, operating almost exclusively in a local market
  • Home repair businesses that rely primarily on the sale of services to the owner, with products as an afterthought.  Waste removal services, lawn mowing, exterminating are all fair game:
    1. Large Business – larger companies that have a significant presence and may even be found in a multi-state area
    2. Small Business – small one person businesses that may employ a small crew to perform the jobs, operating almost exclusively in a local market

Home repair – sales and service business relationships may ‘cohabitate’ with other vertical markets.  Additionally, many of the businesses may vary greatly by size – from very small one-person operations to large, multi location enterprises competing in the same space.

A unique opportunity when servicing businesses in this vertical market is for you to become a member of any association that supports the respective industry.  An agent may also seek to become a preferred vendor for business members that also work within the vertical market.

Unlike some other vertical markets, there are significant opportunities within the local market with few that are completely beyond the scope of the agent, thus this market is frequented extensively by those marketing payment processing solutions.
